This cake looks very impressive when it's done however I don't agree that it is SO moist. I made this for a birthday and to add to the decadence I doubled the recipe and made a 2 layer cake with some chocolate ganache in the middle. I also substituted a very dark bold coffee for the cayenne and everyone loved the flavor. However I want to try adding some sour cream to make it just a bit more moist. Otherwise it is very tasty!

I loved this cake as did those who shared it with me. I had never tasted spicy chocolate cake before and what a pleasant surprise. This is a keeper! When a reviewer is surprised that a recipe doesn't come out exactly as they think it should, it is because they have usually altered the recipe in some way(s). Baking is precise and recipes must be followed exactly. Don't write a review unless you've made the recipe exactly as written, it is not fair and not accurate.

I made this according to recipe, and would give it 5 stars except it needs to be a bit more moist. It was a bit on the crumbly side. The flavor is fabulous - the red pepper doesn't come across as heat, just adds flavor. The simple glaze makes this one layer cake look a lot more fancy than it is. I will make it again, but may try adding a bit of sour cream or something to make it a bit more moist.
