Once the ghouls and ghosts go back into hiding, you won’t have any Reese's Peanut Butter Cups left in your stash of leftover Halloween candy. Simply, everyone knows that they’re the first treat to disappear. However, you will have a year’s supply of boring ol’ chocolate bars in your candy haul. What to do with them? It’s easy: Wave goodbye to Halloween and welcome winter with a warm, homemade hot chocolate.
This hot chocolate recipe calls for a cup of milk and a handful of chocolate bars, so you’re well primed to use up leftover Halloween candy. That’s it—just milk and chocolate. Hot tip: Use a mixture of milk and dark chocolate bars so your cup doesn’t turn out overwhelmingly sweet. Rim the mug in chopped Krackel bars for some texture. If you don’t have any more in your pile of candy, Snickers, Three Musketeers, and Mr. Goodbar will work, too.
Homemade Hot Chocolate with Chocolate Bars
1 cup milk
¼ cup mini Hershey’s Special Dark Bars
¼ cup mini Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars
2 to 3 mini dark or milk chocolate bars
2 to 3 mini Hershey's Krackel Chocolate Bar, chopped
How to Make It
Heat the milk. Place the milk in a small saucepan and cook over medium-low heat until just simmering.
Chop the chocolate. Meanwhile, chop the mini dark and mini milk chocolate bars. When the milk is simmering, mix in the chopped chocolate, whisking constantly until all of the chocolate is melted and incorporated. Remove from heat and set aside.
Rim the mug. In a shallow, microwave-safe bowl, microwave the chocolate on high for 20 seconds intervals until fully melted, stirring between each interval. Dip the mug in the melted chocolate and then in the chopped Krackel.
Serve. Fill the mug with hot chocolate and sip (or, you know, guzzle it down).
