Lower Alabama Whole Hog Basting Sauce

Yield 2 quarts

Ingredients

  • 1 quart vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice (about 5 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup French dressing
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

How to Make It

  1. Stir together all ingredients in a 3 1/2 quart saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 30 minutes.
