Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
  • 1/3 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups milk, divided

Preparation

  1. Combine dry ingredients; add shortening, eggs, buttermilk, and 1 cup milk, mixing well. Pour batter into a lightly greased 2-quart casserole. Pour remaining milk over batter in casserole; do not stir. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean.
