Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 medium onions, diced
  • 2 (28-ounce) cans whole tomatoes
  • 1 (10 1/4-ounce) can tomato puree
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil

Preparation

  1. Melt butter in a Dutch oven; add onion, and sauté until tender. Add tomatoes and remaining ingredients; cook over medium-high heat, stirring often, 20 minutes.
