Kentucky Cornbread

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups cornmeal
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons shortening, melted

Preparation

Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and shortening, mixing well.

Pour batter into a greased 8- inch square baking pan. Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
