I decided to make the recipe as stated for the first time, even though I thought the topping looked like it wouldn't be enough. I was shocked to discover that it was perfect as is!!! We all loved it, even my picky kid who is wary of anything with oatmeal. Apple crisp is one of my favorite desserts, and this recipe suited my craving in every way! Thanks Cooking Light!

This is a solid 4* low fat recipe. I substituted fresh oj for the water and apple juice since I didn't have any apple juice concentrate on hand. I'm sure it also cuts down on the sugar/calories. There is not much "crisp" considering the amount of apples, but I wouldn't expect any different from a light recipe. Personally, I'd skip the ice cream, make a little more crisp for the top and top it off with some light whipped cream. Definitely worth trying!

This is my go-to apple crisp recipe. It's one of the few recipes without nuts (we have an allergy in our family). I use whatever apples I have which is typically not Granny Smith and they work great. Gonna make this tonight using Jonagolds! YUM!

Classic and simple - warm tender apples, which pair perfect with ice cold vanilla ice cream. The topping is very judicious, so I would double the amount, but had a nice toasted-oatmeal-cookie flavor. I liked the subtle sweetness from the apple juice.
