Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup grape jam
  • Pecan Frosting

How to Make It

  1. Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar; set aside.

  2. Cream butter in a large mixing bowl; add eggs and buttermilk, beating well. Add flour mixture and jam; beat at medium speed of electric mixer for 3 minutes.

  3. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 8-inch round cake pans. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove layers from pans, and cool completely on wire racks.
