Homemade Yeast Bread

This is my family's absolute favorite bread recipe. We make it every Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. It never lasts longer than a day!

  • 2 envelope(s) yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup(s) sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 6-7 cup(s) flour


  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in 2 cups of warm water, let stand 5 minutes.
  2. Add egg, sugar, and salt. When combined, add half of the flour and mix until moistened.
  3. Knead in remaining flour. Dough should be smooth but not too stiff.
  4. Cover bowl with a towel and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Divide dough into two bread loaf pans or two muffin pans sprayed with cooking spray and let rise, covered, another hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees, and bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden.
