Rita, The proportions are correct. Try halving the recipe if you don't want to cut out so many cookies. If you halve it you will only need to use 1 stick (8tbsp) of butter.

Just a quick thought: Doesn't 16 tablespoons of butter seem like a lot? I wonder if its a typo. I haven't made this yet and don't think I will until I can get the answer to this question.

I would not make this cookie again. I used a shamrock shapped cookie cutter instead of the 2" heart. The cookie did not keep its shape when cooked. I feel the 400 degree temperature for the oven was the problem.

I made them in the fall, so i used leave cookie cutters. I LOVED this little treat and everything turned out perfectly! The cookies kept their shape, they tasted great, and they were absolutely amazing. Tips: Cook for 6 minutes and keep checking every minute after that, knead a lot so the dough isn't too dry, take them out of the oven when the edges get dark because the middles become firm after sitting on the wire racks.
