Gyro Burgers

Up your grilling game this summer with a burger that’s sure to impress—i.e. a Gyro Burger. Inspired by the classic Greek sandwich, we’ve upgraded ground beef with bold seasoning and a new home inside of a pita pocket, rather than typical sesame bun, with lettuce, tomato, red onion, feta cheese, and generous drizzle of toasty tahini sauce. Before assembling, wrap your pita rounds in a foil packet and throw them on the grill for a couple of minutes if you’d like a warm pocket for your burger and toppings. And if you are a lamb fan, we’d highly recommend substituting ground lamb for half of the beef called for here. Serve these beauties up with fresh grilled veggies like eggplant and zucchini. 


  • 1 pound extra-lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Greek seasoning
  • 4 (8-inch) pita rounds
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • Tahini Sauce, optional (see recipe)
  • 1/4 cup Feta cheese

How to Make It

  1. Combine beef and seasoning in a large mixing bowl; shape into 4 patties.

  2. Grill patties, covered with grill lid, over mediumhigh heat (350° to 400°) for 5 to 6 minutes on each side or until beef is no longer pink.

  3. Cut off a 2-inch-wide sliver of bread from each pita round to form a pocket. Line each pita with 1 lettuce leaf, 2 tomato slices and 1 red onion slice. Add burger patties. Drizzle each patty with 2 Tbsp. Tahini Sauce, if desired, and sprinkle 1 Tbsp. Feta cheese evenly over each.
