Delicious! Used boneless thighs and it was much quicker. Very juicy and just enough spice.

Excellent. Juicy. Just the right combination of sweet and spicy. The only change I made was substituting beer for the water.

Making it for the second time today. I was surprised at how easy and especially how good this is. As a Texas native, I know BBQ sauce and was very proud to have made one this tasty - even though all I did was follow the recipe.

Every time we make this we get requests for the recipe. Delicious!

Perfect and easy. We will make this a lot over the summer. I can't wait to try leftover chicken breast with this sauce sliced on top of a salad. Tonight we served it with the CL baked beans and a platter of sliced heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, and avocado slices. Great meal for a hot night.

My husband, who is the cook in the family, said this was the best dinner he's ever had! Served it w the watermelon-cucumber salad and black beans and rice. The sauce was very good. I didn't have chipotle powder so used a little smoked paprika and a little chile powder.

We thought this was great! The sauce was easy enough to make (watch directions... I almost put all spices in sauce instead of reserving some to sprinkle on chicken). Used drumsticks as the suggested alternative to leg-thigh quarters (don't really like dark meat). One drumstick was enough for me, hubby had two. Served with suggested garlic-lime grilled corn and watermelon-cucumber salad also from CL's July 2013 issue. Will definitely make this again!

We enjoyed this but still prefer CL's "Brown Sugar Barbecue Sauce" (June 2006) when making our BBQ chicken. Served with the Quick Classic Baked Beans and Raspberry and Blue Cheese Salad from the same issue (July 2013).

Very delicious! Very easy weeknight dinner. The BBQ sauce reminded me of the style my mother in law used to make back in the day - sweet, ketchup based. The chipotle flavor was nice - I'd even amp it up a bit next time. Would be fantastic with some Siracha added to kick it way up on spice. But as-is, a sweet, addictive, tasty summer bbq chicken that comes together very quickly. Did boneless, skinless thighs and skinless drumsticks. Served with grilled corn on the cob, mac 'n cheese and watermelon. Everyone, kids included, like this one. A hit!!

It is actually that good! My guests kept taking more and commenting. I didn't mention how easy it was to make this sauce.

With the large variety very good commercially prepared BBQ sauces out there one has to be outstanding for me to spend my time making it. This is that sauce! Initially it tastes a little "Ketchupy" in the pan but once you slather this over the seasoned chicken (follow the recipe carefully, not all the spices go in the sauce) this sauce shines. What piece of chicken you put it on is irrelevant - this is just a GREAT recipe!

WOW!! This was fantastic. The BBQ sauces was amazing and I want to use it for other things. I really liked the sweet/heat in the sauce. I'm a huge dark meat fan, so the combination was great.

My husband and I were looking for a bbq sauce that we both agree upon...and this was it! Delicious recipe - made it exactly as it said with no changes.

A solid weeknight recipe! It's easy to make and even my husband, who isn't a huge barbeque chicken fan, loved it. The sauce was a perfect combination of sweet and spicy. I will definitely make this one again.

Great recipe. Hubby and I both thought it was perfect with drumsticks. I will be making this for the Fourth of July.

Just made this for Father's Day and it was a big it. The BBQ sauce came together very quickly and easily. It had a bit of a kick and went nicely with the rub. I will definitely be making this again and again

Awesome. Other than substituting chicken breasts for thighs/drumsticks, we made it exactly as pictured in the July '13 issue. Paired nicely with with Garlic Lime Grilled Corn and Watermelon Cucumber salad. The entire meal came together surprisingly quickly. This one goes on our replay list.

My entire family said this was delicious and definitely a keeper. Nice balance of sweet and spicy. My only substitution was a combo of onions and garlic for the shallots.

Very solid recipe and very tasty!! I have not had bbq chicken in a while and this hit the spot!! I served with the cucumber/watermelon salad and roasted potato salad in the same issue. Great summer meal!! I added extra honey and chipotle.
