  • 2 pounds fresh green beans
  • 2 tablespoons bacon drippings
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cups water
  • Onion Slaw


  1. Remove strings from beans; wash and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Combine beans, drippings, sugar, salt, pepper, and water in a large Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 2 hours or until beans are tender. Serve Onion Slaw over beans.
