Here's a low-fat, high-flavor alternative to the familiar green bean and French fried onion casserole.
1 pound fresh green beans
1 1/2 cups frozen pearl onions, thawed
1 tablespoon reduced-calorie margarine
2 tablespoons brown sugar
How to Make It
Arrange beans in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam 15 minutes; set aside. Place onions in boiling water 3 minutes; drain.
Melt margarine in a large heavy skillet over medium heat; add sugar, and cook, stirring constantly, until bubbly. Add onions; cook 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Add beans; cook, stirring constantly, until heated.
