twelve 4-inch waffles

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup boiling water

Preparation

Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs and molasses, beating until smooth

Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with dry ingredients; stir well

Spoon batter into a preheated, lightly oiled waffle iron, following manufacturer's directions. Cook 5 minutes or until brown and crisp. Repeat procedure with remaining batter.
