  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 teaspoons buttermilk
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 1 to 2 T. milk

How to Make It

  1. In a large bowl, blend together shortening and sugar. Add remaining ingredients; beat until dough is sticky. Spoon onto wax paper; wrap and refrigerate for several hours to overnight. Roll out dough 1/2-inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out shapes with floured cookie cutters; transfer to greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are golden. Cool before frosting. Frost with Powdered Sugar Frosting. Sprinkle with sugar. Add jellybeans for eyes and mouth.
