the whole family enjoyed the taste of this dish. it was easy to make and i found the texture really good, a good meatless substitute. i served it with brown jasmin rice and used dried garbanzos instead of the canned. i precooked the beans in broth and substituted the cooking broth for the water called for in the recipe

I usually make garbanzos latin style with sofrito. I was ready to try something new. This is a great, hearty alternative. I substituted the jalapenos for chiles for a milder taste but still some kick. These garbanzos are great with any type of rice: jasmine, brown, wild... The fresh cilantro and tomatoes add a colorful and fresh flavor.

This is a great family recipe. I made it with spicy canned spaghetti sauce when I didn't have the fresh tomatoes and that was just as good. I used dried chick peas (rinsed) and cook covered with water in slow cooker overnight, then drain and bag in recipe amounts, and freeze for later use. The kids really like this one and it is a healthy supper.
