Serves 4 (serving size: 1 apple)

Serve sweet fried apples as a delicious snack, appetizer, or dessert for an impressive fall treat that comes together in just 25 minutes. In place of Fuji, you can also try Gala or Honeycrisp. For this peeling technique, you'll need to use an apple peeler similar like this or this.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups canola oil
  • 4 (8-oz.) Fuji or Granny Smith apples
  • 4 (6-in.) wooden skewers
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 cup club soda
  • 1 cup (about 4 1/4 oz.) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

How to Make It

  1. Place oil in a large, wide Dutch oven or saucepan, and heat to 375°F.

  2. Using an apple peeler, peel, core, and cut each apple in a spiral to make an apple "Slinky." Carefully thread 1 skewer at a slight angle through length of apple spiral. Gently spread apple to equal length of skewer, being careful not to break apple. Apple should be spread apart but still hold its spiral shape on the skewer.

  3. Whisk egg white in a large bowl until foamy and soft peaks form. Slowly stir in club soda. Add flour, salt, and apple pie spice, stirring gently to combine. Place 1 threaded apple skewer in batter, rotating and spooning batter over apple to cover. Let excess drip off.

  4. Cook apple skewer in hot oil until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes, rotating occasionally to brown evenly. Remove from oil. Repeat with remaining apples and batter.

  5. Dust with powdered sugar, and serve immediately.
