Cream shortening; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg, and mix well.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
Spoon batter into greased muffin pans, filling two-thirds full. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon; stir well. Remove muffins from pans while still warm; roll each in melted butter, and then in sugar-cinnamon mixture. Cool.
