Wasn't very appetizing because of the ketchup.

This was an outstanding, inexpensive, simple, fast dinner. My family (including my ultra-picky 2 year old) loved it. This will become a regular in the rotation!!

Sorta bland. Added some chopped fresh garlic to the hamburger while it was sauteeing. Also, made fresh mashed potatoes with garlic and sour cream. Still, needed more seasonings. If we make it again, will have to think on it.

Could use a few tweaks here and there. My husband liked it but it needs more mashed potato and more ketchup. The meat is very loose and we're use to something that sticks more.

I used 1 lb. stew meat, carefully trimmed instead of ground meat, and it cut down on the fat content. I also made my own mashed potatoes, as store bought can't compare, I just lighten them up with chicken broth and then use minimal amounts of butter and half and half to thicken--but I omitted the cheese called for in the recipe. I also seared the stew meat using only cooking spray but they were coated with s&p, minced garlic and herb mix. I then deglazed the pan with beef broth and port to richen the sauce and used much less ketchup for a more sopphisticated taste. It was great with modifications!

Easy, quick, tasty and filling. My family loves it. I use either home made mashed potatoes or the ore ida mashed potatoes found in the freezer section, these are like fresh. One other variation that I use is instead of ketchup, I use a can of cream of mushroom soup and layer all of the ingredients ending with the mashed potatoes and cheese. We love to have a salad or brocolli with the dish. We make this a lot especially in the cooler months.

I'm sorry but this is not a shepherd's pie. It is a potato pie. A shepherd's pie is made with lamb, and for the most part, chunks of lamb not minced. Hence the name "Shepherd's pie"

This recipe was bland and a tad dry. I suppose you could tweak it . . . A LOT . . . and it could be better. I will not be making this recipe again.

I changed up this recipe by mixing in chopped green peppers, chopped onions and minced garlic while cooking the beef. I chose to omit the ketchup and used 1/2 can of tomato sauce instead. The kids loved it!
