Creamed Mushrooms

Yield 6 servings


  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, cleaned
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 6 slices bread, toasted
  • Paprika

How to Make It

  1. Melt butter in a heavy skillet over low heat. Add flour; cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Add mushrooms, and stir gently; cover and cook 5 minutes. Gradually add milk, stirring until smooth. Add salt and pepper; cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened and bubbly. Spoon mixture over toast; sprinkle with paprika.
