Ingredients

  • 2 cups cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Preparation

  1. Combine cornmeal, baking powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl, stirring well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
  2. Drop batter by tablespoonfuls onto a hot, lightly greased griddle or skillet. Cook until golden brown, turning once. Serve hot.
