- 2 cups cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon shortening
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- Combine cornmeal, baking powder, and salt in a medium mixing bowl, stirring well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
- Drop batter by tablespoonfuls onto a hot, lightly greased griddle or skillet. Cook until golden brown, turning once. Serve hot.
