Cool Minted Milk

Cool Minted Milk

Prep: 5 minutes; Cook: 3 minutes; other: 50 minutes

Italians enjoy summertime while sipping this cool, refreshing beverage that's typically served in the afternoon. They make this drink with a mint-flavored syrup found in their grocery stores and markets. The mint-infused simple syrup that we've created for this beverage also tastes delicious in lemonade, tea, and hot chocolate.

Oxmoor House JUNE 2006

  • Yield: 8 servings (serving size: 1 cup)

  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 8 cups 1% low-fat milk

1. Bring first 3 ingredients to a boil in a medium saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat; simmer 1 minute. Remove from heat; cover and cool completely.

2. Press mixture through a fine sieve over a bowl, reserving mint syrup; discard mint leaves.

3. Combine mint syrup and milk; stir well. Serve immediately.

Note: If you prefer to serve this beverage by the glass rather than by the pitcher, stir 4 teaspoons mint syrup into 1 cup milk.
