Coffee Frosting

Yield enough for one 4-layer cake


  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 3 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • Dash of salt
  • 4 cups sifted powdered sugar

How to Make It

  1. Combine coffee granules and boiling water, stirring until dissolved; set aside.

  2. Combine chocolate, butter, and salt in top of a double boiler. Cook over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat; cool.

  3. Stir in coffee mixture. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating at medium speed of electric mixer 1 minute or until mixture is smooth and creamy. Use immediately.
