Cinnamon Walnuts

Yield about 3 cups

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups walnut halves

How to Make It

  1. Combine sugar, cinnamon, cream of tartar, and water in a medium-size heavy saucepan; stir until well blended. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture reaches soft ball stage (240°).

  2. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and walnuts. Beat with a wooden spoon until mixture begins to thicken. Quickly spread walnuts on waxed paper; separate with a fork. Let cool. Store in airtight containers.
