Stir orange peel and Grand Marnier into foolproof buttercream. Spread bottom layer of cake with orange marmalade, then about 3/4 cup of the orange buttercream. Top with remaining cake layer and frost with remaining buttercream. Garnish the top of the cake with thin shreds of fresh orange peel.
Made this recently and unlike the first review found it to be an excellent cake. A little crumbly but quite moist and and the chocolate flavour was fantastic. I did however use my own buttercream recipe. Everyone loved it and many people came back for seconds. A great chocolate cake.
Too bad this got ONE bad review. I haven't made it but I find it beautiful and intriguing. With the Grand Marnier and Orange Marmalade, special enough to give someone special. In my own imagination, I thought of adding in some melted Terry's Dark Chocolate Orange to the double layer chocolate cake to moisten it up a bit and add a little more intrigue.
This cake is so gross! The chocolate cake is so dry and the "foolproof" buttercream frosting tastes like a stick of butter...disgusting! This was meant to be for my husband's birthday cake; we both took about three bites and threw the whole cake in the garbage. It was that bad! Do not waste your time with this recipe!
