Yield 64 bars

  • 1 (6-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup finely chopped almonds

How to Make It

  1. Place chocolate in top of a double boiler; bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring frequently, until chocolate melts. Cool.

  2. Combine eggs, sugar, oil, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl; beat until smooth. Add melted chocolate, mixing well.

  3. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to chocolate mixture, beating well. Stir in almonds. Pour into two greased 8- inch square baking pans. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes. Cool 5 minutes in pan, and cut into 4- x 1/2-inch bars.

  4. Place bars on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 275° for 10 minutes; turn bars, and bake 10 minutes or until dry and crusty.
