Chocolate Frosting

Yield frosting for one 13- x 9-inch cake


  • 2 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, beaten

How to Make It

  1. Combine chocolate and water in top of a double boiler; place over simmering water and cook, stirring constantly, until chocolate melts.

  2. Remove from heat; add butter, and stir well. Cool slightly. Gradually add remaining ingredients, beating until smooth. Use immediately.
