Chocolate-Caramel Trifle with Raspberries

I have made this trifle twice. First time by the book, second time I substituted caramel syrup for the caramelized-sugar step and made the cake from a mix. Both times turned out delicious, but I must say the shortcuts make me more likely to repeat this dessert for a third time! Yummy AND easy!!

Your eyes will roll back in your head, this is so delicious! You can make it with cake mix, no problem, and a double chocolate cake mix would be even better. But do take the time to make the caramel cream according to the recipe, and don't make other changes to the recipe. This was absolutely dreamy. If you are told to bring dessert, you can't go wrong with this. I brought this to a Christmas dinner and it was GONE even though there was another dessert and there were only 8 of us. That about says it.
