not a bad flavor, but tasted more like warm salsa than a good soup. wouldn't make it again.

I've never tried this soup before but I was thrilled with the way it turned out. Like others I added black beans and instead of a jalepeno I used diced chilies from a can because it's all I had on hand.

My favorite tortilla soup recipe ever! I have been making this soup for over ten years and I still crave it every time I have a cold.

This is a great, easy weeknight soup. The only thing that I usually add is more salt. I also never use frozen corn but only canned because that's what I always have on hand. Made this for dinner tonight and served it with quesadillas made with reduced-fat 4 cheese mexican blend. Yummy, fast dinner!

I use hot italian sausage to spice this up as well as shredded chicken. if you buy sausage links, just cut off the casings and brown the meat when you brown the onions and garlic - it really gives it great flavor. I also add a can of black beans and extra corn and this is always a hit!

Great soup. Easy. I added a little bit of water with corn starch just to thicken it up a bit. Fabulous! Adding a can of black beans (drained and rinsed) was a nice addition. Will make again and often!!

Yuumy! Made this the other night! Loved it. I added one can drained black beans, one whole jalapeño pepper, (will add at least two next time) used one can rotel in place of diced tomatoes. Boiled three skinless chicken breasts. ALso doubled up on the spicies. Easy and GOOD! Will make again and again!

Great easy recipe. We seasoned our chicken and sautéed it until cooked and then shredded. We used a can of dice tomatoes with chilies instead of the jalapeño and added a can on undrained black beans. We also cooked a cup of basmati rice to add close to the end of cooking, to make it heartier..

Delicious! I have tried several tortilla soup recipes over the years and this one is by far the best for it's great flavor and so easy to make. Not too spicy so increase jalapenos if you like it hot. I topped each bowl with jack cheese instead of sour cream and added sliced avocados. Will make again!

This was delicious! Used up leftover rotisserie chicken. Didn't have tomato soup, so used a 14 oz can of tomato sauce and extra chicken broth. I also added a can of diced green chilies and black beans. Jalapenos on the side since my kids can't take the heat. Served with cheese quesadilla's and roasted broccoli. Even my picky son lapped up every last drop! We will make again.

This is the best tortilla soup! Super easy and delicious. It is also easy to modify the recipe to individual tastes by adding more or less spice, jalapenos, etc. I also like the idea to add in black beans, etc. for a twist. Yummmm!

This was just OK. It was pretty boring and could use alot, but we ate all the leftovers! It pretty much tasted like tomato soup with chicken and veggies with some spice. I'll keep looking for a solid Mexican Chicken tortilla soup recipe!

This is a great soup. I make it all winter, It needs adjustments and these are the ones I make: Use those small 5.5 oz cans of V8 juice (one spicy and one regular) instead of the canned tomato soup. "Blacken" the corn in a pan before you put it in the soup. Add one can of black beans, rinsed. You may also need to adjust the liquid, more chicken broth or diced tomato can depending on how soupie you like it. Put fresh chopped cilantro and avocado and shredded cheese on top.

One of my favorite soup recipes. I have made this countless times, and when others try it they always want the recipe. One thing I occasionally play with it the chipotle. If you substitute it with a spicy salsa, it adds an entire new depth of flavor. I also leave out the wine if I have none available and usually don't miss it. You MUST have tortilla chips and light sour cream with this, it's fabulous!

My family loved this soup. I made the following changes to the recipe: I omitted the white wine and tomato soup (because I didn't have them). Instead I used a 32 oz carton of chicken broth (instead of the 2 cans of 14 1/2 oz) and added 1/2 cup of salsa. I substituted the jalapeno pepper for canned chili peppers because my children don't like their food too spicy. I added a can of drained black beans like other reviewers suggested. I also cooked and drained the frozen corn (used entire 9 oz box) and then sauteed it with the garlic and onions until it was blackened. It turned out great!

Good recipe! I made several alterations. 1) I used leftover Thanksgiving turkey and the turkey stock I made. 2) Subbed enchilada sauce for the tomato soup (for a more mexican flavor). 3) Added a can of drained & rinsed black beans. 4) Added 2 Tbl. tomato paste to help thicken the broth. It was delicious!

Followed recipe as is and loved it! Made it a second time, and used 1 cup of chicken and 1 can of great northern white beans for extra fiber. Just as good. This one is definitely marked a favorite, and good enough to take anywhere.

I made quite a few substitutions, mostly out of necessity, but they all worked out great. I didn't have tomato soup in the house so I used a can of nacho cheese soup instead. I threw in a can of black beans because it seemed like it belonged there, and I also added roughly 3 tbls. of medium salsa for a little extra kick since I didn't have jalapeno. I had some chicken sausage in the house so I threw in a link of that as well. I'll definitely make again but probably my way since I was so pleased with the results. Very easy to make as well. That's always a plus.

Really good but I did make a few changes using Rotel Tomatoes with chilis and 1bage frozen corn with black beans. Next time I'd increase the spices.

I love this recipe for a quicke, tasty soup recipe. I add a cheese and bean crisp to round out the meal. Yummy!

Wonderful but I added a can of Rotel tomatoes, fresh cilantro and used the breast of a rotessary chicken. Also garnished with fresh cilantro and avocado. Excellent!

Very good soup. I followed the recipe except I did not add the jalapeno peppers or the sour cream. The tortilla chips were a nice way to finish the soup. I will definitely make this soup again!

Surprisingly yummy! Not too spicy, but complex. Use the lemon juice or lime juice, if you don't have it, use anything similar! I love many different tortilla soups, I'll add this to the collection.

Delicious every time and soooo simple! I like to make it with left over chicken the day after I roast a chicken. YUM!

We all love this soup, especially my 14 yr old, diabetic granddaughter (she asks for it often). I add black beans (rinsed) and instead of corn, I add squash, chopped rather small ( but would be anybodies preference). Either or yellow squash and zucchini are both good.

This is definitely a "go-to" soup. Great flavor. Serve with warm tortillas and butter. Everyone I've made this for, loves it!

Outstanding soup. I made some modifications: Double the chicken (I used 2-10oz cans of shredded chicken), add serano pepper instead of jalepeno, and a good squeeze of fresh lime. At the end, place cubed avocado in the bowls to serve. Add fresh cilantro to garnish. Also: made Jiffy corn muffins to go with it (instead of tortillas?).
