Cheese Biscuits

Yield about 1 1/2 dozen

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 2/3 cup milk

How to Make It

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; cut in shortening and cheese until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk, stirring until moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 3 or 4 times.

  2. Roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness; cut into rounds with a 2- inch cutter. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet; bake at 450° for 8 to 10 minutes.
