Cheddar-Apple Filling

Yield about 2 cups

  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups peeled, chopped Granny Smith apple (about 3 apples)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

How to Make It

  1. Melt butter and brown sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring often. Add chopped apple; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes or until apple is soft. Stir together cornstarch and water. Stir cornstarch mixture into apple filling; cook 1 minute or until mixture thickens. Remove from heat. Cool completely. Stir in cheese.
