My mother grinds the walnuts in the food processor but finely dices the apples by hand. Prep: 10 minutes.
Yield: Makes 3/4 to 1 1/4 cups
- 1 cup chopped apple (Gala or other firm, red variety)
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon kosher red wine
- Combine all ingredients. For a chunkier texture, chill until ready to serve. For a smoother texture, pulse in a food processor or blender until well blended and coarsely ground; chill until ready to serve, or serve at room temperature.
