Great recipe. I used half whole wheat flour, half regular. Only 4 tb butter instead of 5, but 2 % greek yogurt instead of fat free. Only 1/4 c white sugar instead of 1/2 c and about double amount of spices. I agree, that the icing is a very nice addition. I would not leave it off. Recipe is fairly simple, def. a keeper.

My thoughts were the same as smd1212. I have also tried the coconut-lime banana bread and both recipes are subtle variations on a classic. Yes, the bread recipe without the glaze is excellent, but the glaze gives it a nice zing that I wouldn't want to leave off!

It uses the same blend of spices found in chai tea, not the tea itself.

Very disappointed in this recipe. I followed the recipe to the letter, and the result was dense and gummy. The flavor is nothing spectacular. I've made several other of the banana bread recipes--like the coconut lime bread smd1212 mentioned--with much better results, so I'll stick to those.

This is a good, solid banana bread recipe. However, I didn't think it was anything special. I was disappointed that it didn't taste more like chai, just like banana bread I typically make. I plan to keep this recipe in my playbook, but next time, I'll try adding a lot more of the spice. Also, this bread is good enough as a standalone; the sugary topping isn't necessary.

I've tried similar recipes that were much more complicated, but this one turned out just as good! I agree that the sugary topping isn't necessary.

Nice change-up -- made exactly to recipe using Greek nonfat yogurt and resisted the urge to add chopped nuts. The loaf was done at 55min so recommend you check earlier than 65min due to variables. Wonderful to bake when the weather's got everyone shut-in. Yeah, the icing isn't necessary but it's a nice & tasty splurge.

This was an amazing bread - hubby and I love chai tea, so this was a natural for us! I love the glaze especially, the way you add spices and vanilla to the same old milk/powdered sugar - it's an amazing flavor and makes the bread really special. I'll definitely make this again, it's right up there with our other CL fave banana breads, the Jamaican coconut-lime bread and the Bananas Foster bread - yum!

The bread is nicely and delicately spiced. It's delicious without the glaze, although the icing helps to highlight the delicious chai spices. It's easy to make. I substituted plain Greek yogurt for the regular yogurt.
