Yield 6 servings


  • 2 1/2 pounds boneless round steak, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 (10-ounce) can tomatoes and green chilies, undrained and chopped
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped tomato
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • Hot cooked rice
  • Jalapeño pepper slices (optional)

How to Make It

  1. Brown steak on all sides in hot oil in a large skillet. Sprinkle with flour; stir well. Add next 9 ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer 45 minutes or until mixture is thickened. Serve stew over hot cooked rice. Garnish with Jalapeño pepper slices, if desired.
