Caramelized Onion And White Bean Spread

Great as a topping on bagel or pita chips, this spread also makes a tasty substitute for traditional tomato sauce on your favorite homemade pizza.

Cooking spray
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 (19-ounce) can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon bottled minced roasted garlic
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Chopped fresh chives (optional)


Heat oil in a nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat. Add onion and thyme; cook 10 minutes or until golden brown, stirring frequently.

Combine beans and next 6 ingredients in a food processor; add onion mixture, and pulse until coarsely pureed. Garnish with chives, if desired.
