Caramel Frosting

Yield enough for one 13- x 9- inch cake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make It

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat; beat on medium speed of electric mixer about 10 minutes or until spreading consistency. Spread frosting on cake immediately.
