Café Con Leche

Yield 8 1/2 cups


  • 3/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 (2-inch) stick cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 cups strong hot coffee
  • 2 cups half-and-half

How to Make It

  1. Combine first 6 ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add sugar mixture to hot coffee; cover and let steep 15 minutes. Strain coffee mixture into a serving pot.

  2. Heat half-and-half to just below boiling; stir into coffee mixture.
