Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat; remove from heat. Stir in brown sugar until dissolved; set aside to cool to room temperature. Blend in egg; add flour, baking powder and salt, mixing well. Stir in vanilla and nuts; spread into a greased 8"x8" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes; let cool.
