Buttercream Frosting

Yield frosting for one 3-layer tiered cake


  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons whipping cream

How to Make It

  1. Combine butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl; beat well with an electric mixer. Add flavorings and salt. Gradually add sugar, 1 cup at a time. Add whipping cream to creamed mixture, beating until smooth enough to spread.
