Brown Sugar Frosting

Yield 2 cups


  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 3 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

How to Make It

  1. Melt butter in a heavy saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and cream of tartar; bring to a boil. Boil 5 minutes. (Do not stir.) Remove from heat; stir in powdered sugar, whipping cream, and vanilla.

  2. Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer 2 minutes. Spread on cupcakes immediately.
