Broccoli Baked With Cheese Sauce

Yield 6 to 8 servings


  • 2 pounds fresh broccoli, cleaned and cooked
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground marjoram
  • 1/4 cup (1 ounce) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

How to Make It

  1. Place broccoli in a 12- x 8- x 2-inch baking dish. Saute onion in butter; add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Add Parmesan cheese, salt, mustard, pepper, paprika, and marjoram; stir until cheese melts. Spoon sauce over broccoli; bake at 375° for 15 minutes. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese over top; bake 5 minutes.
