Boiled Cabbage

1 medium cabbage, cleaned
1 (1/2-pound) ham hock, rinsed
1 small red pepper pod
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper


Place all ingredients in a large Dutch oven with water to cover; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 40 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Drain well, and cut into wedges to serve.
