Blackberry Syrup

Blackberry Syrup adds a distinctive summer flavor to Derby Juleps.

Yield: Makes about 2 1/2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 6 ounces fresh blackberries, halved
  • 15 fresh mint sprigs

Preparation

  1. Boil sugar and water, stirring often, 2 to 3 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat; add blackberries and fresh mint sprigs, and cool completely. Cover and chill 24 hours. Strain syrup; discard solids.
