Biscuits With Sesame Seeds

Yield about 1 dozen

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • Additional milk
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

How to Make It

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle 1 cup milk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.

  2. Turn dough out onto a wellfloured surface; knead lightly 10 to 12 times.

  3. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Brush each with milk, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 450° for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
