Berkeley Spiced Cider

3 cups orange juice
3/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
6 (3-inch) sticks cinnamon
1 tablespoon whole cloves
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
3 quarts apple cider
1/2 cup applejack (optional)
Additional sticks cinnamon (optional)


Combine orange juice, lemon juice, sugar, 6 sticks cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg in a Dutch oven over medium heat; cook until sugar dissolves and mixture is thoroughly heated. Add cider, stirring well. Add applejack, if desired. Strain mixture, discarding stick cinnamon and cloves; pour into cups. Serve with stick cinnamon, if desired.
