    This was pretty good overall - I'd like to give it four stars, but I would not serve this for a special occasion as it's not really that "special" but it is a good solid stew. I will make it again for sure, but probably will serve over cous cous not mashed potatoes because they made it a pretty heavy meal and are more of a pain to make. I chopped the onion up the night before, then in the am I just browned the meat, threw all the stuff in there and went to work. Since I could not find the 1lb of meat (it was more like 1.4) I used extra wet ingredients - I used two onions, two cans of tomatoes, a full 12oz can of beer (bud light), and then a touch more of the molasses at the end. It came out great. I was a bit nervous because it cooked for more like 10 hours, because I could not get home in time, but I think that just made it all the more tender :-) I might add some carrots and potatoes in the last hour of cooking if I had time to try that out.

    I absolutely love this meal, and so does my family. I usually double the recipe because everyone wants more! Also it is really good served with rice or potatoes. I serve a green salad and crusty bread alongside, and it's perfect!

    This was quick, easy and tasty. I personally found the molasses to be a little too sweet on its own, but when I added some Hickory Smoke BBQ sauce it was excellent.

    I would definitely, definitely make this again. I'm giving it 4 stars because it was delicious although I don't think I'd necessarily make it only for a special occasion. We loved it! I read the other reviews first about the mashed potatoes being heavy, so we served over couscous and it was perfect, very light. Definitely will be a go-to meal for us!

    It is spring time so to make it not so heavy, I made it with a side of orzo. I also added shredded carrots, blk pepper, kosher salt, extra oregano, minced garlic, and basil. Its a great meal when you are not home to cook.

    This was a new slow cooker recipe for me this week. I'm not sure if I did something incorrect but this turned out pretty bad. I made this for a friend tonight and served it over garlic/Parmesan mash potatoes along with some acorn squash. After a couple bites we both decided it wasn't worth eating and ordered a pizza. Love my slow cooker, just not his recipe.

    My husband liked it but I didnt. Everyone was right that it would be better with rice than potatoes due to heaviness but I didnt listen. I think if I made it again I would have more meat and less tomatoes. The meat was very tender but got lost in the tomoatos.

    This is a fabulous recipe for a wintry day. Especially before the holidays when you have no time. I threw it in the crockpot and went Christmas shopping all day. The meat shredded SO easily. I served with mashed potatoes, carrots and salad. My husband loved it. I'm not a huge beef lover and I even loved it. Will definitely make again

    Great recipe and very easy!! It was a hit with my husband and son - I didn't have the molasses, so subbed honey and brown sugar. Added lima beans and a little Dale's marinade at the end to add some flavor. Can't wait to make again!!!

    The meat and sauce in this dish is very tasty, however it's not substantial enough to stand on its own unless additional veggies (maybe carrots or green beans?) are added. I did not like it paired with mashed potatoes -- the photo shows it sitting on top of a pile of mashed potatoes, however a serving of mashed potatoes is only 1/2 cup (prepared), which has 150 calories, and is not enough to hold even 1/2 cup of the beef dish. The dish is flavorful enough that I might add some carrots and serve it as a stew in the future.

    This recipe was ok. It wasn't spectacular and I don't know if I will make it again. I served it over egg noodles that are more dumpling like, which I think made it taste better than it would have otherwise. It was just ok. Nothing to write home about. I made it exactly as stated.

    The meat turned out very tender but it was kind of bland. Had to add quite a bit of salt & pepper. Served it over couscous with steamed broccoli and corn.

    I would make this again. It was super easy and I love any kind of shredded meat. It could have used a bit more flavor, maybe some sweetness. I guess the molasses wasn't enough. I served it over shreddded cauliflower, which is a great low-carb substitute for rice. It was a hit with the family.

    So quick and effortless to make! My house smelled great when I got home from work and I mashed some new potatoes to serve it on top of. Was pleasantly surprised by the great taste!

    I tossed this together in 10 minutes this morning and spent the day wondering.. Was surprise to find it was very good! We will be adding to our regular rotation. Gonna try it with a different side, but thought it was great with potatoes.

    I rate this recipe as outstanding, but only with my additions/modifications. I added two cloves of garlic, crushed, and sprinkled in a generous amount of dried basil and some oregano. Even though the canned tomatoes have all of this in it, it still needs a little more for added flavor. Also, I used a blade roast instead, which can be tougher, so I added a little more beer to help the braising process... maybe 3/4 cup total. I didn't up the molasses because I think the 2 tblspns adds a perfect amount of sweetness to balance the whole thing out. I seasoned in layers instead of adding salt at the end. I lightly salted & peppered the onions (which I happened to use fresh, not frozen) and then I seasoned the meat before searing. After adding the tomatoes, I added a touch more salt & pepper when tossing in the other herbs. I served this over mashed potatoes and my teenage boys cleaned their plates and went back for seconds! It was really good... definitely keeping this one on file at home!

    I would make this again but I don't think I'd make it for a speacial occasion. I think it was better even the next day. Maybe a bit more garlic needed than what's provided in the can tomato

    I've made this several times and everyone liked it. Instead of molasses, I use honey. taste great! I also add some baby carrots along with it.

    The meat cooked well but overall the flavor was way too sweet for us. I could barely eat it. Would be better with barbecue sauce or something. My husband used some on the leftovers and he said it was much better.

    This wasnt bad but it wasnt the greatest either. Like some other people, I had to add almost twice as much molasses...also, i had to cook it an extra hour because it wasnt tender after 8. It paired perfectly on top of mashed potatoes. Not something i will make all the time.

    I thought it was good and had good flavor, used red wine instead of the beer (didn't have any at the time). Served it over mashed potatoes, and made soft tacos out of the left overs.

    Made this for my southern food loving parents. Their only complaint was that it wasn't salty enough, but I thought it was great. It was really good over mashed potatoes and I didn't think it was too sweet at all.

    Eh, this is just ok. I've made it twice and the pro is that it's SUPER easy. I added chopped garlic to the onion in the slow cooker. I left off the molasses at the end the second time I made it. We like to eat it on sandwich rolls with cheese. It's a fine, easy dish, but nothing to write home about. I probably won't make this recipe again; time to try another slow cooker beef recipe.

    NOTE: Review based on recipe AS IS. I didn't tweak everything as I went and then come here to tell you this recipe is great. What's the point? You want to know if this recipe is good straight out of the gate. The flavor was underwhelming. I was more excited about eating the mashed potatoes I served with it. Maybe using a good beer (I used Miller Light Chill or some kind of abomination) would help the flavor. Maybe also using fresh garlic and fresh basil and fresh tomatoes would help. Basically, change everything and it could taste great!

    The picture and the product are not one of the same. I made this because according to the picture, the meat looked tender, and the sauce looked rich. The dish itself wasnt terrible but it was EXTREMLY bland and needed salt. I added salt and was left with a soupy sauce. A little addition of flour did the trick. But the dish was still missing something. I made some glazed carrots as a side dish and ended up placing the carrots on top of this dish. I served the beef on top of pumpkin polenta and topped with maple glazed carrots.

    Very good. I was afraid the meat would be tough and dry. By shredding it and putting it back in the broth was perfect. I made the reciped exactly as directed and it was delicious!

    I decided to try this because the picture made it look so good. The meat was super tender, but also super bland. My family didn't like it at all - we decided to go out instead. I would NOT make this again. I honestly don't know how it got an average of four stars.
