Beach BBQ Sauce

Makes about 2 1/2 cups

Slather this sauce on a Beach BBQ burger. If you haven't made your own BBQ sauce before, it's quick and easy—and it makes a lot. You could call it the sauce of the summer. 

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup minced sweet onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 jalapeño chile, seeds removed, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 (18-oz.) bottle barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

How to Make It

  1. Heat oil in a large heavy-duty saucepan over medium-high. Add onion, bell pepper, and jalapeño, and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute. Stir in barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, lemon juice, and salt, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer, stirring occasionally, until sauce has thickened slightly, 15 to 20 minutes. Serve warm.
