Béchamel Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

How to Make It

  1. Melt butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; whisk in flour until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute. Gradually add milk; cook, whisking constantly, over medium heat until thickened. Whisk in salt and pepper.
