Basil Simple Syrup

When your garden is overflowing with fresh basil, try using some to flavor syrup. Stir the syrup into club soda to make a quick, refreshing cooler.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 lightly packed cup fresh basil leaves
Preparation
- Stir together sugar, 3/4 cup water, and the basil in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. When the first bubbles appear, reduce heat to medium-low and gently simmer 5 minutes. Let cool, then strain. Keeps up to 1 week, chilled.
